DStv Partners With Enjuba In Annual National Spelling Bee

DStv Uganda has been announced as title sponsors for the fourth edition of the national spelling bee competition, organized by enjuba a local social company.

The inclusion of DStv, the leading video entertainment company in Africa will aid ‘enjuba’ in its objective of improving literacy, unlocking the children’s imagination and developing key life skills such as confidence, teamwork, critical thinking and presentation.

 

The Spelling bee is conducted in both local languages for P.3 pupils and English and Sign Language for P.4-P.7 pupils. The first three editions of the Spelling Bee reached over 700,000 pupils in 800 schools. 2016 will see 600 schools in all regions of Uganda, conducting Spelling Bees in English and Sign Language for P.4-P.7 pupils; and Runyankore-Rukiga, Runyoro-Rutooro, Luganda, Lusoga, Acoli, Lugbarati, Leblango, Dhapadhola, and Ateso for children in P.3 in line with the thematic curriculum.

The format for this year’s competition will start in schools across the country in second term, where every registered school will conduct a school Spelling Bee. This will be followed by District and Regional Spelling Bee competitions that will take place towards the end of Second Term and beginning of Third Term and the National Spelling Bee Championship will take place in Kampala in October 2016.

 

The winners of this year’s Spelling Bee will take home a cash prize of 1,000,000 Uganda shillings towards next term’s School fees, and they will also represent Uganda at next year’s African Spelling Bee.

The spelling bee commences on July 2 with the following schools in Kampala hosting School Spelling Days:  – Kampala Parents School, City Parents School, Hillside Nursery and Primary School, Victorious Primary School – Kampala, Victorious Primary School – Mukono, Budo Junior School, Green Hill Academy, Tawhid Primary School, and Lorencia Junior.
