Makerere University lecturers under their association MUASA say the 100% salary increment should be given to them as startup capital to rear goats.
They argue that there is no problem with one rearing goats since they can earn more money from it.
After the closure of Uganda´s oldest institution of higher learning, Makerere University on Wednesday this week, over the lecturer´s strike, president Yoweri Museveni spoke tough on the matter, advising the lecturers to go and rear goats.

This follows remarks by President Museveni while in Mpigi were he said since the University had been closed lectures should go and rear goats.
“We have now shut down the University. If the lecturers don’t want to go back and work let them go and rear goats. I am tired of these games; they should stop said president Yoweri Museveni.
“I can go and graze goats, but I need the means to graze the goats. We are asking for the means to graze the goats. Goats are a very big financial input to this country” said Dr. Tanga Odoi a member of MUASA.
Makerere University Academic Staff Association Chairman Muhammad Kiggundu said they do not need such threats that they will be sacked.
“This is a target we learn that officers who are supposed to be solving the problems of Makerere University are busy setting out their own business because money is everything” he added.
