Uganda is experiencing a power blackout, with the capital, Kampala not spared.
According to UMEME, the company in charge of electricity in Uganda, the blackout that has left almost the whole country in darkness was brought about by what they have called a system interruption.
“There is an interruption on the network affecting most parts of the country. Our team is working to restore power asap. We regret all inconveniences this is causing/ SN,” Umeme updated on its social media platforms Wednesday evening.
The areas affected include; Mabale town, Rugombe T/C,Kasunga village, Munobwa tea estate and surrounding areas.
In Jinja, it has been switched off to isolate broken conductors along factory street industrial area, says UMEME.
Affected areas include: National Show Ground, Speke Avenue, Uganda Pharmaceuticals, Nile Avenue, Iganga Road, Lubas Road, Oboja Road,Gomba Fishing, Marine and Agro Fisheries, Factory Street, Nile Aluminium Industries, Nile Plywood, White Nile Diaries, Crocodile Tool, Kirinya, Gomba Quarters and surrounding area. Power will be restored shortly.
In Kampala the affected areas include; Shoprite Lugogo, Naguru Hill, Kampala parents, Kabira Club, Part of Bukoto including Nsiimbiziwoome, Mukalazi zone, Semwogere zone, Kalonda and Namuli zone, Lugogo By-Pass, Fadica, BOU, Kiwalima, Anyeko, Radio Sanyu, Naguru East, EAC Quarters among others.
The affected areas in Kasese include: Nyakasanga, Kasese Roundabout, Kidoodo,Muhokya, Kikorongo, Bwera, Katwe, Mweya Safari Lodge, Katunguru, Kyambura, Kicwamba, Kitoma, Nyakiyanja, Rugazi, Nyakasharu, Butoha, Ndekye, Buzenga, Rutoto and surrounding areas.
In Mbale the affected areas include; Industrial area, namatala, doko and surrounding areas are.
And majority of the other areas are in total darkness too.
