Prime Minister Hon Dr Ruhakana Rugunda on September 25,2015 chaired an Inter-Ministerial Meeting, where it was agreed that government will deliver relief food to the people of Karamoja.
In order to avert the emergency food situation in the area, the meeting resolved to send a team with supplies to the people affected in the region.
The meeting which was held at the Premier’s office was attended by Members of Parliament from Karamoja region and cabinet ministers among others.
The importance of transparency and mostly accountability in the distribution of relief food and other supplies was emphasized.
Members of Parliament from the region were encouraged to be involved in the distribution. This would ease the swiftness of the process, the Prime Minister stressed.
The gathering noted with deep concern the deteriorating food situation in the region as a result of prolonged drought which has destroyed crops and affected livestock.
Earlier on the WFP had produced a report showing that the situation had been exaggerated but the Ministers resolved that wasn’t the case and that they would swing in to help their people in the affected areas.
