M-Net has launched a new customised East African TV channel that meets the needs of East African region called Maisha Magic.
Maisha Magic was on Wednesday evening launched in Uganda at an event held at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala that attracted artists, actors, producers and various personalities in the entertainment industry of Uganda.
Speaking to journalists, Michael Ndetei, the Regional Director of M-Net East Africa said the new channel is the company’s investment into talent and skills development in East Africa.
He said the creation of the channel was driven by fabrics of the East Africa.
Maisha Magic, DStv Channel 161 will air movies/shows/series from all over East African countries.
Asked how content to air will be chosen, Mr Ndetei said: “We are looking for content from all over the region and it will be balanced.”
He also noted that some of the movies or dramas will be in the local languages, “We will show movies that tell the story regardless of the language. All our content is subtitled,” he added.
Some of the Ugandan movies, drama series and live shows that will air on Channel 161 include; Tendo Sisters, Comedy Club, Deception, The Hostel among others.
“How you tell your story will determine if your content should be aired on the channel,” Ndetei said.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of Uganda Communications Commission, Geofrey Mutabazi who was also the Guest of Honour emphasized the importance and relevance of investing in the creative and production industries.
“As the regulator we are keen and aware of our role in creating n enabling environment for the industry to thrive by putting in place incentives, plus the legal and policy framework needed to regulate the industry effectively,” he said.
