Kenya Claims CECAFA Cup Title


Skipper Allan Wanga led his team to victory as they were crowned the 2013 CECAFA senior cup  after beating  Sudan 2-0  at Nyayo stadium.Wanga netted the first goal in the 35th minute. The harambee stars dominated much of the first half with many shots on target but Sudan’s Keeper Ali Abdelrahman made many saves on the night.

The Cecafa finals were played on a day when Kenya was celebrating It’s 50years of independence and the win was a prefect gift to all Kenyans. The Harambree stars have now won the senior challenge cup six times including 1975, 1981, 1982, 1983, 2002 and lately 2013.


Kenya’s head coach Adel Amorouche thanked his team for the team spirit they showed throughout the championship.  “The boys have really believed in themselves all tournament round with superb performances and spirited displayed. That is the recipe of hard work”, he said.


“I am so happy to score three goals in the tournament and lead Harambee Stars to victory. It had taken Kenya 30 years to win the Cecafa trophy on their home soil, a point Kenya’s coach was well aware of.” Wanga told reporters after the final.





The match was postponed for two hours after Sudan’s team  members were held by Hotel authorities over  unpaid bills. Former prime Minister Raila Odinga, handed over the trophy to captain, Allan Wanga amidst cheers from the jubilant crowd.  The regional senior cup was sponsored by GOtv.
