Interview: Airtel Trace Music Star Sandra Suubi Plans To Go Solo

On the 14th February 2015, the Ugandan edition of the competition finally came to an end with Sandra Suubi being announced the competition winner and recipient of the 100 million shillings prize money.

We caught up with Sandra to find out more about her future plans and how she is preparing for the Airtel Trace Music Star Africa competition and this is what she had to say.

 

QN:What pushed you to participate in the Airtel Trace Music Star Competition?

 

Sandra: I joined the Airtel Trace star competition because of the desire I had to move to anotherlevel in my music career. Also, the encouragement from my family and friends helped me to easily make up my mind.

 

QN:What are you going to do with the Shs100 million?

 

Sandra:With the 100 million, I plan to produce amazing music. I also wantto invest in a passion I have had fora long time which is to create spaces for young people to share and use the gifts that God has given them.

QN:Are you going to continue with your art work now or will you concentrate on amusic career?

 

Sandra:I am going to continue with both because I have always done both. For me, music andthe art are different but the same. They sort of complementeach other.

 

QN:Will you continue with your music group or are you going to go solo?

 

Sandra:I am going solo.

 

QN: If you win the recording contract, the first song you release, will it be in Lugandaor English?

 

Sandra:I would like it to be a mixture of the two. The Luganda will represent my beautiful home Uganda where I come from and the English will represent where the song will be produced from.

QN:Would you join Akon’s recording label if he asked you to?

 

Sandra:It would be such an honor and a great opportunity for me. However, my final decision would depend on the terms spelt out inthat contract.

 

QN:If you’re to collaborate with any of the other 4 finalists, who would it be and why?

Sandra:I would collaborate with all of them. This is because I believe there is something special about each one of them; Brenda, Bruno K, Dan Flavour and Tonix. Working on a song with all these amazinglytalented people would be awesome. In fact, imagining it now makes me very excited.

 

QN:How are you preparing for the Airtel Trace Star Africa competition?

 

Sandra:In preparation for the Airtel Trace Star Africa competition, I am praying, seekingguidance from different mentors that have walked this musical journey with me to thispoint, taking good care of my voice , resting and practicing like crazy.
