The Cranes managed to hold the hosts to a goalless draw in the first half.  Captain Geoffrey Massa and Brian Umony were the lead strikers on Wednesday evening and managed some shots on goal.

Defender Savio Kabugo also blocked Togo star Emmanuel Adebayor hard hit shot that would have otherwise made it to the back of the net. The Togolese striker had another shot on goal that saw Khalid Aucho cleared the ball off the line just before the break.

The hosts kept on attacking after the second half kicked off but Kabugo and Isaac Isinde were on show again with great displays as they were protected by midfielders Tony Mawejje and Kizito Geoffrey.

According to, substitute Brian Majwega (on for Brian Umony) had the game’s best chance or Uganda Cranes as he was fed by Kizito Luwagga in the penalty area with just a keeper to beat but made too many touches  with the ball to allow keeper Djehani N’guissan Yao to get better of it.

Togo took the lead in the 70th minute as Isinde fouled  Donou Kokou who scored the only goal in Namboole last Saturday. A free kick was awarded to the Togolese with Gakpe Serge taking it for Akakpo to head in to hand the home team a 1-0.

Togo now lies in second position behind table leaders Ghana who beat Guinea 3-1. Uganda drops to third with four points.
